little brown grace-notes
in my musical instrument

James Tate wants a taste
of the shroud around the southeast

an unpaginated
blue /despairing man
he draws me sleeping

he has a wing lodged
in his last good eye

the hush-throated nettles
play at random for him
and fuck his sleeping daughter
who is a mess
